This week, we will be pretending to go on our holidays, with the home corner turning into a travel agents/airport. We'll be packing our suitcases and exploring the world with maps and globes. If the children have any souvenirs from past travels they would to share with us, that would be fantastic.
We will also be popping along to the allotment to plant runner beans and to continue with our clearing and planning. It was a very successful and fun morning. We've raised lots of money for charity over the past few weeks (it's heading towards £1000) so thank you so much for your support. Don't forget if you would like a splatter painting created by your child/children, let Mrs Shaw know. These will be commenced after the half term. We break up on Friday and return Monday 6th June. Have a great holiday!

Firstly, a very big thank you to all who came to the May Ball on Friday night. We had a wonderful time, shared great company, strutted our stuff on the dance floor (!) and raised some pennies for The Nest. So far, we have taken over £400 in the raffle, but there is still an opportunity to buy tickets all week in pre-school. We are also still taking silent bids for the children's art work and the two night stay at the De Veres hotel (with all the trimmings) so pop in to Cheapside to make your bid! We will draw the raffle and reveal the winning bids on Thursday.
This week, we will be planting seeds and learning about growing, unfortunately not at Gardening Grandma and Grandad's, as Grandma has had an operation, but at our allotment. We have been given the opportunity to share an allotment with Cheapside Primary, so we will be making regular trips to get our vegetables and fruits planted. If anyone would like to give us a hand, please let us know! We are very excited to have the chance to grow produce and learn more about wildlife, so we are very happy for any suggestions, ideas or donations to make the experience for all the children fantastic. Once you have completed the challenge, the children receive a medal and we all have tea and cakes! Everybody (friends and family too) are welcome even if it's not your child's normal session. Don't worry if you have work commitments and it is your child's regular session, as the staff will be happy to take them around the course. If you would like any clarification, please ask. Don't forget to wear suitable footwear, as the terrain can get quite tough and the event will go ahead, rain or shine!! If you have any cakes to donate, please drop them into pre-school as near to Thursday as possible, thank you. We will be continuing with our spring craft this week as well as creating a unique and exclusive piece of contemporary art that will be up for auction! It will be created by all the children and would make a wonderful memento of their time at pre-school. If you are unable to come to our May Ball on Friday and you would like a chance to win, please put a bid in, you never know, you may be the highest bidder! Don't forget to read the email about the ball sent out by the FOPS.
We will also be cooking during the week with Mrs Clarke (something yummy will be coming home!) Show and Tell Mm Nn Oo Maths Challenge To recognise shapes in our environment- what shapes are road signs? This week is all about spring and as the weather is getting better, we will be looking for signs of spring in our garden, whilst creating some beautiful works of art. We'll be dancing to music using our ribbons on sticks, so if you'd like to pop in and join us, please do.

Staff Update As you know, we welcomed a new member of staff to pre-school last week on a trial basis. Unfortunately, her trial proved to be unsuccessful so she will not be joining us after all. We are delighted to announce though, that we have found a wonderful new teacher to join our team. Miss Paula Gomez will be taking on the role of Early Years Inclusion Co-ordinator (full time) alongside Miss Daniel's part time Co-ordinator role. Miss Gomez brings with her experience of working with all age ranges of children, a knowledge of languages (her speciality) the ability to play musical instruments and the love of the outdoors. If that wasn't enough, she has Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)! We feel extremely lucky to have found Miss Gomez and feel she will be a great asset to our team. Please say hello when you see her, as it is always daunting starting a new job! Miss Daniels is nearly leaving us to have her baby. She really doesn't want to go and is hanging on to the bitter end! Her last working day will be Tuesday 10th May. If anyone would like to contribute to a parting gift and sign her card, please pop in to see Mrs Shaw. Miss Daniels will hopefully be returning to work in Jan/Feb 2017 but knowing Miss Daniels, she'll probably be back sooner! REMINDER PRE-SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED ON THURSDAY 5TH MAY FOR ELECTIONS |
